By now, you’ve likely heard about the DAFGP program has been paused for the remainder of the year after reaching funding capacity. As an organization, this is something we are well acquainted with, and unfortunately resulted in us having to close the doors to our program indefinitely.
We know that we are not alone. Many programs that support families have experienced similar funding issues. Every family deserves to be able to access doula support should they wish to, but as more and more programs must close their doors or accept fewer clients, this is not the reality in our province. When programs are paused or funding runs out, doulas are directly impacted, often losing income or going out-of-pocket for the families they support.
Please join us on Friday, October 10 at 7pm for the Birthing Families Foundation Call to Action: Protecting Doula Care & Perinatal Support in BC. We are grateful to the foundation for bringing us together to discuss the very real impacts that the lack of funding has on our programs, doulas within BC, and on families.
